Billy McAuley, Chief Instructor, Asoryu Aikido Club, Huddersfield; has, for over ten (10) years from beginner to Aikikai 3rd Dan, trained in Aikido in Japan under the direction of Asoh Kinjo Sensei a 7th Dan Aikikai Shihan who was a close and direct student of O’ Sensei Ueshiba Morihei. Billy McAuley was awarded 1st Dan in 1988; 2nd Dan in 1991 from Asoh Kinjo Sensei and in 1994 he was awarded 3rd Dan from Doshu Ueshiba Moriteru. Billy received both 4th Dan and 5th Dan from UK Shinwakai Aikido. He was awarded 5th Dan on 27th November 2010:
In 1995 following his return to the UK from Japan, Billy McAuley first founded Asoryu Aikido Club in Hereford. However, in 1999 following a family move to Huddersfield, West Yorkshire the club was closed. Due to professional commitments Billy was unable to re-establish the club. However, following encouragement from UK Shinwakai Aikido Sensei Marill Poole, 6th Dan, in December 2008 Asoryu Aikido Club was re-opened in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire
At Asoryu Aikido Club, Billy McAuley teaches Traditional Aikido with a strong emphasis on the basics (kihon) of Aikido: Billy firmly believes that having a solid foundation in the basics of Aikido is essential for the proper development and progression of all Aikido practitioners in their practice of Aikido
Asoryu Aikido Club is named in honor of Billy McAuley’s Japanese Aikido Sensei; Asoh Kinjo Sensei an Aikido 7th Dan Aikikai Shihan of the Aikikai Foundation, Tokyo, Japan, who in 1993, sadly succumbed to cancer: Billy has travelled extensively and has had the privilege of taking Aikido instruction from many of the world’s leading Aikido teachers: As Chief Instructor of Asoryu Aikido Club, Billy is very proud indeed to have UK Shinwakai Aikido, Sensei Jack Poole 7th Dan as it’s Technical Director; In Billy’s opinion, Sensei Jack Poole is one of the world’s leading Aikido teachers: Billy is equally proud of the club’s Technical Advisor; UK Shinwakai Aikido, Sensei Marill Poole 6th Dan who tirelessly devotes herself, not only to the development of Aikido in all Aikido clubs under UK Shinwakai Aikido and in all the affiliated Aikido organisations of the UK Shinwakai Association, but also she actively promotes the advancement of the British Aikido Board and the proper and safe practice of Aikido in the UK
